No matter how well you plan...

Hey Guys

Geez! This has been one heck of a winter so far, hasn’t it? I mean between the weather and shifts and changes around the world, we’ve been rockin’.

Speaking of changes, last week I was on my way to SoCal with Madeline when the west coast was hit with a gi-normous storm. The lower-lying areas were dealing with floods and mudslides and the mountains with snow and ice storms.

My flight—along with 300 others scheduled all over California—were cancelled. Thank goodness I found out before I left for the airport!

And you know what the worst part was? Having to tell my seven-year-old daughter we had to wait until the next day to leave for the beach.

So, I was able to book a flight out the next morning and I planned used that extra day to get a little more work done … except for the fact that my team was also impacted by the weather. One of my team members lost power for four days and we were out of touch.

Plan B squashed.

We’ve all been blind-sided by things outside our control. No fun, I know. We have two choices:

One, we can flip out. We can yell and scream at everyone within earshot. Does it change anything? Usually not.

Or two, we can go with the flow and make the best of what we’ve got.

I like to go with the second choice.

Change is going to happen no matter how well we plan—changes we like and changes we aren’t super-crazy about. The only thing we can control is how we respond to those changes.

Was I happy about my travel plans changing at the last minute? Of course not—especially when I was supposed to be greeting house guests who were already on their way. But flipping out wasn’t going to change any of that.

So I allowed myself to be a little pissed off for a minute and then made new plans. I assessed the best options I had to work with and then went with them. We ended up having a great weekend.

XO,

Hayley
