Hayley Hobson: Hello, my friends, I'm Hayley Hobson, and I'm so glad you're here. Welcome to the 10/10 podcast, where I help ambitious women like you look and feel younger so you can achieve that 10 out of 10 lifestyle and unlock financial freedom. So, I am super excited for today's episode. I have invited a really fun friend of mine to the show to talk about a product you have all been in my inbox about for at least a year. She is the queen of castor oil and has a wealth of knowledge on this crazy, versatile product.
Hayley Hobson: I'm here to ask her all of our most pressing questions so we can learn everything there is to learn about how to use castor oil to improve our overall health and wellness. Because if you know me, you know I'm all about any new woo-woo wellness tech. Actually, this is not woo—castor oil goes way back. She'll talk about that. I've been using castor oil and castor oil packs on the daily now. Well, actually, I started using them about 25 years ago, and I don’t know why I got out of it. But now I've been using them pretty much daily for over a year, and I have been loving the results. Talk about a snatched tummy—a little bit more about that later.
Hayley Hobson: Just to give you an idea, castor oil is derived from the seeds of the castor oil plant, and it's used for all sorts of natural remedies, like hair growth, cleaning, and moisturizing your skin, anti-aging benefits, soothing benefits, hormonal benefits, and even skin, hair, and nail growth. I have a funny story about that later. Depending on how and where you use it, this oil can be great for all sorts of issues, and that's why we've got an expert to give us all the info. So allow me to introduce my friend Marisol.
Queen of the Thrones: It's party time.
Hayley Hobson: So before we begin, Marisol, I just want to give a little bio. Marisol is a former naturopathic doctor and beauty queen. Now she’s a really passionate clean beauty advocate. She’s revolutionizing and simplifying beauty and self-care routines with the multi-use magic of castor oil and very easy-to-use castor packs.
Hayley Hobson: I can't tell you—back in the day, it was like sheets and plastic wrap all over my body. Such a mess! Anyway, Marisol is the founder of Queen of the Thrones, and she draws on her deep expertise to select the best castor oil. You guys know I'm all about sourcing the best.
Hayley Hobson: She advocates for its use as a natural alternative to toxic ingredients that impact women's hormones and graceful aging. Fun note: she’s authored two books, “Oh, Sh*t!” and the soon-to-be-released “Castor Oil: The Queen of All Oils! Simplify Your Skin, Hair, Brow, Lash, Nail Care Routine with the Multi-Uses Oil of Castor for Clean Beauty.” Today, I know she’s going to continue inspiring us to embrace a cleaner, healthier lifestyle. So welcome to the show, Marisol!
Queen of the Thrones: Oh, amazing! Thank you for that beautiful introduction, Hayley. And yeah, you’re right. I am all about that castor oil and clean stuff, right? Because I want to. You know, today someone was saying, it’s not necessarily about aging gracefully, but it’s more about aging well, right? It’s so true.
Hayley Hobson: Absolutely. Can you share a bit about your journey and why natural, clean products are so important to you?
Queen of the Thrones: For me, it started early. I always overreacted to things like skin creams, perfumes, and scents. Growing up in a family involved in dance and pageants, I was using heavy makeup from a very young age, and it didn’t work for my body. Over time, I realized my sensitivities were linked to these products. As I delved into natural medicine, I discovered castor oil, which became my dharma—my purpose in life. It’s been an incredible journey.
Queen of the Thrones: On my first day in the natural health industry, I walked into a health food store and noticed dusty glass bottles of castor oil on a bottom shelf. Something about it tugged at my heartstrings. I asked the store clerk what it was for, and she listed its many uses. I thought it was cod liver oil at first—or maybe even beaver oil, since “castor” in French means beaver! I learned it’s actually derived from a bean. That was a relief because I know people worry about seed oils, but castor oil is different.
Queen of the Thrones: At first, I dismissed castor oil packs because they sounded messy. Back then, they involved things like Saran wrap. But castor oil kept popping up everywhere. I realized it wasn’t just about the health benefits, but also its grounding effects and ability to balance the body’s energy systems. It’s even known as "the palm of Christ oil" for its deeply restorative properties.
Queen of the Thrones: From a cosmetic perspective, I started experimenting with castor oil and couldn’t stop. Its consistency is like liquid silk, hydrating and moisturizing like nothing else. This becomes especially important as we age and our skin and tissues become drier. Castor oil nourishes and hydrates deeply, replacing many beauty products with just one natural solution.
Hayley Hobson: I love how versatile castor oil is. And you’ve traveled the world sourcing the best castor oil. Can you break down some of its primary benefits for people new to this product?
Queen of the Thrones: Absolutely. Castor oil is unlike any other oil. Many conventional beauty practices focus on harsh treatments like stripping the skin, which can cause long-term damage. In contrast, ancient systems like Ayurveda view oil as love—nourishing, hydrating, and balancing the body on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels. Castor oil does all of this while also acting as the best carrier oil for delivering nutrients into the body.
Queen of the Thrones: It’s important to choose high-quality castor oil. Look for hexane-free, organic, cold-pressed, or expeller-pressed oil. Packaging matters too—castor oil should be stored in glass, not plastic, to prevent contamination and oxidation during transport. Many oils on the market are of poor quality because they’ve been transported in plastic barrels under high heat. Testing and sourcing are key.
Hayley Hobson: That’s so helpful. Quality really does make a difference, especially for something as powerful as castor oil. Let’s talk about some of the ways to use it. What are your top tips?
Queen of the Thrones: For a nighttime routine, I use castor oil for cleansing. It acts as a natural surfactant, gently removing makeup and impurities without drying the skin. I follow with a warm, damp cloth to wipe away excess oil, leaving a protective layer that hydrates overnight. This eliminates the need for separate cleansers, toners, and moisturizers.
Queen of the Thrones: For eyes, I use castor oil as a nighttime serum, applying it around the eyes, on eyebrows, and lashes. I follow with a beauty sleep mask made of organic cotton to keep the oil in place while I sleep. It’s amazing for reducing fine lines, dark circles, and dryness.
Queen of the Thrones: I also use castor oil for oil pulling, which involves swishing a teaspoon of oil in your mouth to moisturize and clean the oral mucosa. This has helped with dry mouth, snoring, and overall oral health.
Queen of the Thrones: For the body, I incorporate castor oil into dry brushing routines. I apply it to my skin before brushing, which exfoliates and deeply moisturizes. Recently, I’ve even started using castor oil as a body cleanser in the shower, which leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated.
Hayley Hobson: I’m loving these ideas. I’ve also found castor oil packs to be a game-changer. They’ve helped with digestion, a flatter belly, and even soothing flare-ups. Can you explain why they’re so effective?
Queen of the Thrones: Castor oil packs are incredibly grounding and help rebalance the body’s energies. They support the liver, reduce inflammation, and create a soothing environment that allows the body to heal. It’s no wonder midwives and doulas use them for postpartum care and other women’s health issues.
Hayley Hobson: I can totally relate. I’ve been using castor oil packs at night, and I notice such a difference in my digestion and overall well-being. I even travel with the mini bottles and packs because they’re so convenient.
Queen of the Thrones: That’s amazing. The great thing about castor oil is its versatility. You can use it for so many things, from liver packs to skin care, hair treatments, and more. For hair, I apply castor oil to my roots, tips, and strands, then wrap it in our castor oil hair wrap. The material retains heat, making it like a hot oil treatment without needing to heat the oil.
Queen of the Thrones: I also use it on my nails, cuticles, and feet. For calluses, I apply castor oil first, use a pumice stone, and then reapply the oil for hydration. My feet, which used to be dry and cracked from years of dancing, now feel soft and smooth.
Hayley Hobson: I’m such a fan of how multi-purpose it is. I’ve even used it for things like soothing skin irritations and keeping my oral health in check. It’s become an essential part of my routine.
Queen of the Thrones: That’s the beauty of castor oil—it’s simple, effective, and affordable. Plus, it’s sustainable and eco-friendly. The castor plant is renewable, uses very little water, and even helps with oxygenating the world. It’s a win-win for your body and the environment.
Hayley Hobson: I couldn’t agree more. I also appreciate how committed you are to sourcing the best quality oil and making it accessible. Can you share any final thoughts or tips for people just starting with castor oil?
Queen of the Thrones: My biggest advice is to start small and be consistent. Whether it’s a nightly face cleanse, an occasional hair treatment, or using castor oil packs, find what works for you and build from there. And don’t stop at beauty—incorporate castor oil packs into your routine for overall health. Once you try them, you’ll never go back. As we like to say, “Once you go castor oil pack, you never go back.”
Hayley Hobson: I love that. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise today. You’ve definitely inspired me and, I’m sure, everyone listening.
