Have you heard the term “microbiome” before?
It’s a super hot topic in health RN.
Long story short, your microbiome refers to the delicate ecosystem that lives inside your digestive tract.
And what’s crazy is, the health of your microbiome literally affects everything in your life.
‘Cause your gut acts as the engine of the body.
Here’s what I mean.
Your digestive system literally determines how much energy and fuel every single organ inside you gets.
All the way down to your cells.
Your body metabolizes everything – from the food and nutrients you consume throughout the day…
To the stress that comes into your body.
It has to go somewhere, right?
Well, the primary place it goes to get sorted, processed, and passed along to its final destination…
Whether that’s into your bloodstream and cells – or out the back door (if ya know what I mean). *wink*

Anyway, the reason so many of us have low energy… are aging more rapidly than we need to… or have lots more diseases than ever before…
Has been scientifically linked to microbiome imbalances.
It was for me.
If you’re familiar with my story, then you know that for literally 40 years of my life, I was sick every single day.
- Digestive problems.
- Constant overwhelm.
I literally felt like I was a failure all the time.
Generally that I sucked at being a human.
And it took a really long time and a whole lotta research on my end for me to decide I got to do something different.
And when I went to my first holistic medicine doctor, he identified the issue right away.
My microbiome was messed up – and stress was a main reason why.
So I walked out of there with a bunch of Chinese medicine and herbs…
And marching orders to slash my stress immediately.
And that’s what I did.
The gut is super fascinating to me.
For example, did you know that over 70% of your immune function lives in your gut?
And tons of neurotransmitters responsible for your mood and mental health are produced there, too?
Including dopamine – which is your happy hormone.
And serotonin – the neurotransmitter responsible for feelings of calm and contentment.
So when your microbiome is out of what, of course you’re gonna feel anxious, stressed, and overwhelmed.
And you’ll be more susceptible to getting sick.
Which literally no one has time for, amirite?
I saw a stat yesterday that says 60 to 70 million people in the U.S. have digestive issues.
And what’s nuts is…
You can have mega microbiome imbalances…
And not have digestive problems like constipation, bloating, or food sensitivities.
Your symptoms may show up as:
- Brain fog.
- Anxiety or depression.
- Inability to focus or concentrate.
- Low energy and motivation.
You might have an autoimmune condition… or skin issues such as eczema or adult acne.
The common denominator is your gut.
Wild, I know.
I mean, think about it – we are inundated with toxins allll the freaking time.
And most of us don’t really pay attention – let alone do anything about it.
So our toxic loads are skyhigh.
And when your microbiome isn’t able to flush out those toxins, we begin to have symptoms that seem to not be connected.
But what’s great is, there’s never a bad time to get your microbiome in order.
And today I’ve got a few tips to help you get started right away.
The first hack to restore your microbiome is to eliminate sources of inflammation.
That looks like:
- Clearing out chemical filled cleaners and skincare products.
- Choosing fresh, organic foods instead of highly processed ones.
- Using an air purifier in your home (one with a HEPA filter).
- Ensuring you have access to clean, filtered water (even for the water you cook with and put on your bod).
The second hack to help rebalance your microbiome is to feed your “good” gut bacteria.
Yep, we have lots of bacteria inside the digestive system.
And what most people get wrong is…
They wanna eliminate ALL the bacteria.
But we actually need “good” bacteria.
They help the body digest our food and nutrients – so you don’t want to get rid of them.
What you wanna do is rebalance them – and give the “good” gut bugs the food they need to take down the “bad” bacteria.
Pre- and probiotics are a great first step.
Prebiotics are fiber that you can’t process directly, but your bacteria eat.
Essentially, it helps keep them healthy and strong.
Probiotics you’re probably more familiar with.
The greatest source of probiotics is fermented foods.
Meaning kombucha, sauerkraut, yogurt, kimchi…
Foods that have ACTIVE probiotics in them.
The third hack is to fill your nutrient gaps.
